It may be the home of the Disney parks but there’s a whole lot more to Lake Buena Vista than Mickey and his pals. From delicious dining and superp shopping to
amazing attractions and incredible evening entertainment, there’s plenty to keep the whole family amused in this popular corner of Orlando.
WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort
Walt Disney World’s four theme parks and two water parks are, of course, the main attraction and offer a vast range of fantastic
experiences. From up-close encounters with the wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park to meeting all your favourite
characters at the Magic Kingdom Park, Walt Disney World Resort genuinely lives up to the hype. On hot days (and there are plenty of these in Florida!), the water parks really come into their own. If you’re feeling the heat, try cooling off in Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park wave pool; or mix ‘chill’ with ‘thrill’ on the Summit Plummet slide at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park
(water parks seasonal operations). If the water itself doesn’t cool you down, the 60mph high-speed plunge certainly will!
Downtown Disney
Central to Lake Buena Vista itself is the magnificent entertainment area Downtown Disney. It’s filled with family fun in the form of themed restaurants, incredible toy shops and the excitement of the DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park. With exceptional restaurants, upmarket shopping and the wonderful La NoubaTM by Cirque du Soleil®, Downtown Disney will appeal to all age groups any any time of the day or night.
Dining
There is a wide array of restaurant chioce in Lake Buane Vista. Why not dine at the wonderful T-Rex Café. This dinosaur-themed restaurant (sister of the ever popular, jungle-themed Rainforest Café®) and serves family friendly meals in a fun, prehistoric-themed environment where lifesize dinosaurs ‘come alive’ to the amazement and delight of both kids and kids-at-heart! Other family favourites include well-known chain restaurants like TGI Fridays and Planet Hollywood.® Budding detectives will enjoy the atmosphere at Sherlock Holmes-themed
Baskervilles; or take the theme a step further at the MurderWatch Mystery Dinner Show, where diners turn sleuth to try and solve the crime – if they can concentrate between trips to the sumptuous buffet!
Family Fun
There’s lots more family fun to be found all around the area. Boy racers will enjoy taking a spin in a NASCAR-style stock car
at Richard Petty’s Driving Experience. But don’t worry if you’re not feeling the need for speed – with other choices ranging from
miniature golf at Pirates Cove and Fantastia Fairways; discount shopping at Orlando Premium Outlets and Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores; and all manner of amusement rides and other fun-filled
activities, you definitely won’t miss out on the action. With all these wonders lying just on the doorstep of Lake Buena Vista, you can be sure there’s never a dull moment in this magical, unique destination.

Attractions
Located right in the middle of the fun and close to all the main theme parks, I-Drive is practically awash with attractions, restaurants and fun things to do. Here’s where you’ll find such big names as SeaWorld®, Discovery Cove® and the all-new AquaticaTM, plus Wet ‘n Wild®, Universal Orlando® Resort and literally dozens of other exciting, family-friendly attractions. The area is continually evolving, with new developments opening every year – thus maintaining Orlando’s reputation as one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic family holiday destinations.
Recent Additions
Some of the most recent additions to I-Drive’s entertainment scene include the new Hollywood Rip Ride RockitSM at Universal Studios® and the fantastic new Manta ride at Seaworld® Orlando. With plenty of new restaurant openings and a massive expansion in brand-name outlet shopping, you’re sure to find a wealth of fresh experiences on International Drive, no matter how many times you’ve been before!
Dazzling Entertainment
For anyone needing a further fix of dazzling entertainment, I-Drive has a host of excellent dinner shows that the whole family will love. Youngsters will be enthralled by the swashbuckling action at the Pirates Dinner Adventure, while kids of all ages will enjoy a full meal and a comical murder-mystery at the Sleuth’s Mystery Dinner Theatre. For more grown-up fun, there are regular live performances from big-name acts at the Hard Rock Live; while the spectacular Blue Man Group show at Universal CityWalk® and comedy clubs throughout the area provide plenty of laughs for the adults in your party.
Shopping
This being Orlando, there’s even a wealth of entertainment to be found at I-Drive’s various shopping malls. Pointe Orlando features a good range of quality restaurants and nightlife options among the 40-odd specialty retailers, while Festival Bay Mall’s Ron Jon’s Surf Park offers the opportunity to try your hand at walking the board – despite being miles from the nearest ocean! For those that just love to shop, the many cut-price bargains to be found at the recently redeveloped Prime Outlets are a world of excitement in themselves.
Getting Around
At over ten miles long, I-Drive’s attractions and amenities are far too spread-out to be walkable. Parking is plentiful but if you fancy a day off from your rental car, the I-Ride trolley (operatind between 8.00am-10.30pm) is both convenient and economical to use. Costing approx $1.25 per journey (or $4 for a day pass), the I-Ride cruises the length of International Drive, stopping at all the main hotels and attractions along the way. Alternatively, if you’re staying in one of our I-Drive hotels, you’ll find that many of these operate free shuttle services to the theme parks.
However you decide to spend your time here, you’ll find International Drive is the ultimate place in Orlando to shop, stay and play.

The Kissimmee area lies to the south of I-Drive, not far from the magic of Walt Disney World Resort. This means that not only does it have easy access to all the major theme parks, it also has a huge range of attractions and amenities that are all on its own.
Kissimmee Old Town
Top billing goes to Kissimmee Old Town, a winning mix of shops, restaurants and amusement rides that’s guaranteed to entertain the whole family. The various roller-coasters and rides (including the Old Town Catapult, which shoots riders 365 feet into the air!) are sure to get the adrenaline flowing, while the bumper cars, live music, quaint shops and interesting dining options make this an entertainment complex that everyone will enjoy. Don’t miss the Friday and Saturday Night Cruise, when classic cars and hot-rods parade down the main strip to a soundtrack of 50’s and 60’s-style rock’n’roll music.
Dinner Shows
There’s also plenty of fun to be had at the area’s excellent dinner shows. Head to Arabian Nights for a fairytale storyline with music, magic, incredible acrobatics and beautiful performing horses; or perhaps try Capone’s Dinner and Show for a thoroughly entertaining evening of wacky characters, hilarious songs and a never-ending Italian buffet. Also popular is long-running Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, where a new storyline and script now include even more action, romance and chivalry.
‘Real’ Florida
It’s not all magic and theme parks though – Kissimmee’s other major appeal lies in its proximity to a more authentic, ‘real’ Florida. Get completely off the beaten track at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, a pristine wilderness reserve of open grasslands and palm forests that’s criss-crossed with excellent hiking trails. For something a little more mainstream, how about an airboat ride across a shimmering lake, or an alligator-spotting tour at Boggy Creek? Wherever you go in the Kissimmee area, you’ll find many opportunities to experience what Florida was like before Mr Disney arrived on the scene.
Gatorland
Alligators also feature heavily at Gatorland, a one-of-a-kind attraction that’s recently undergone a multi-million dollar makeover. Get up close to hundreds of alligators and other Florida natives, or let the kids run wild at the Gator Gully Splash Park, whose water cannons and splash-and-dash thrills will keep them entertained for hours.
More to see...
More grown-up-style fun can be found at The Loop shopping complex for mid-to up-scale purchases, or try Wal-Mart of Target for cut-price goods. There’s golf and fine dining to be found throughout the area; plus if you’re hankering for home, you can get your fix of all things British at The Rovers Return, The Fox and Hounds or one of the other British pubs that can be found on Highway 192.
All in all, Kissimmee offers a fantastic mixture of small-town charm and big-time attractions, making it the ideal choice for those looking to fill their holiday with the widest variety of experiences. From wildlife to wild times, you’ll find it all in Kissimmee!
Make sure you have a holiday to remember! Choose one or more of our fabulous excursions.
